Replace Fire Protection Hangar 1 at NAWS China Lake, CA

NAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION, CHINA LAKE, CALIFORNIA

Contract Value: $3,100,000.00

Category: Fire Life Safety – Design Build

  • Project managed the design and build of new fire protection and alarm system utilizing Viking grate nozzle technology for AFFF distribution within Hangar 1 at NAWS China Lake.  The overhead deluge water sprinkler system was demolished and replaced with an overhead wet sprinkler system.  The existing 16” thick hangar floor was demolished and replaced with a new monolithically cast-in-place concrete hangar floor to accommodate the new AFFF grate nozzle system.  A new static grounding system was installed within the new hangar floor.  A new underground, high-pressure water distribution system was installed for the flow control and alarm valves within the newly built and customized AFFF building.  Within the AFFF building, both overhead and AFFF support equipment including piping, fittings, valves, and AFFF tanks were installed within an environmentally controlled environment.
  • The new underground drainage system was designed and integrated with the new AFFF grate nozzle system from the hangar floor to a retention basin approximately 1,500 feet away.  A new fire alarm with base reporting, AFFF releasing panel, and triple IR/UV flame detection was installed.  The complete system was showcased for NAVFAC SWDIV Fire Protection Engineering and tested for FM Global and UL certification and approval.  This project was performed during full hangar operations in two phases, in which only half of the 40,000 SF hangar was available for construction.  Communication, coordination, and scheduling with hangar representatives were absolutely critical to the success of the project.

Relevant Project Experience:

  • Design Build, Fire Sprinkler, AFFF Grate Nozzle Technology, Fire Alarm, Triple IR/UV Technology, Basewide Alarm Dispatch and Connectivity, New Building Construction, New Concrete Floor with Coating, and Underground Water Distribution.

Fire Alarm Reporting System – NAS Fallon, NV

NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON, NEVADA

Contract Value: $6,137,331.00

Category: Fire Life Safety – Design Build

  • Project managed the design and build of the replacement, repair, and upgrade of the Fire Alarm Reporting Systems within 143 facilities of various sizes and complexity at NAS Fallon.  The project included Mass Notification System (MNS) design and installation.  Demolition of old fire alarm equipment and infrastructure, and furnishing, installation, programming, and testing of new MNS equipment and components were performed to ensure that each building on base reported fire life-safety alarms to the designated receiving station in San Diego, CA.
  • Connectivity was established via the existing telephone network through the use of Digital Alarm Communicator Transmitters (DACT) and Digital Alarm Communicator Receivers (DACR).  Two (2) new DACRs were networked, programmed, and integrated within the base-wide reporting system per NFPA and UFC standards.  Upon installation, an extensive testing and receiving protocol was enforced to ensure established and dependable connectivity between NAS Fallon facilities and the remote monitoring station in San Diego, CA.

Relevant Project Experience:

  • Design Build, Fire Alarm, Basewide Alarm Dispatch and Connectivity, Mass Notification, Low Voltage Infrastructure, and Installation.
