NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, CALIFORNIA
Contract Value: $6,915,050.00
Category: Dry Utility
- Project managed the design and build of the repairs to the existing underground electrical distribution systems affected by a landslide at Naval Base Point Loma. Circuit B1/C2 was installed overhead along Steamplant Road using engineered steel poles, supported by concrete piles measuring 10’ in diameter by 120’ deep with reinforcement cage. Circuit C14 contains a connection to the B3/B4 loop along Rosecrans Ave., which was demolished and intercepted within a manhole to a new 4-way pad-mounted switch. Circuit B7/B8 was redirected from the manhole to the east side of Rosecrans Ave. within an above-ground heavy-duty fiberglass, bulletproof conduit to support all electrical distribution serving submarine maintenance operations.
- Additionally, the leaking 4-way switch at Pad 962 fed from Circuit C-14 was replaced with a new 4-way SF6 insulated pad mount switch. All circuits affected were replaced with new medium voltage, shielded, EPR, 133% rated, 600V copper cabling. New fiber optic cabling was installed between Substations B and C for network communication and monitoring. The project experienced several challenges with the overhead pole and foundation design.
