Replace Transformers – NAS Pt. Mugu, CA

REPLACE TRANSFORMERS AT NAS PT. MUGU, CA

Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California

Contract Value: $1,920,489.44

Category: Dry Utility

  • Project managed the design and build of the replacement of thirteen (13) existing pad-mounted transformers and associated hardware and cables within the Ready Missile Test Area.  In addition, the scope included the removal of two (2) existing pad-mounted transformers and associated hardware and cables.  New pad-mounted, oil filled, 4160V-480/277V and 4160V-208/120V 3-phase transformers with primary switch and fuses were installed after the removal and demolition of the existing transformers and concrete pad.  New underground infrastructure and a concrete pad were installed to support the new pad-mounted transformer setup and configuration.  All transformer enclosures were coated, stainless steel construction per ANSI C57 for coastal environments.  New panelboards with ION 8650 electronic meters were installed in close proximity to the transformers.
  • All necessary grounding with grounding wells were installed.  High voltage, EPR, 5kV rated copper wires/cables were installed between the electrical manhole and transformer with an inline splice for reconnection to the existing circuit.  Due to the mission criticality and operations, each new pad mounted transformer configuration must be completed within a seven (7) day period from initial outage to clear cap and isolate the primary service to final outage to re-energize the newly installed transformer and panelboard configuration.  Based on the performance requirements for each location, all thirteen (13) transformers were replaced within 75 days over the course of twelve (12) outages.

Relevant Project Experience:
